Our Community, Our Healthbox
Our Healthbox is located at First Light at 70 Brookfield Road, St. John’s - a major hub for programming and services to support our urban Indigenous community members.
At First Light, we know that people come to us for many reasons. Some are looking for connection. Some are seeking support. Others are simply trying to take care of themselves the best way they can.
This partnership is about making care easier to access. The community Healthbox provides free supplies in a familiar, judgement-free and trusted space, so people can get what they need safely and privately.
Our goal is to support community members in a way that feels welcoming, respectful, and supportive. The Healthbox offers free access to a range of health, wellness, and harm reduction supplies.
By reducing barriers like cost, the requirement to ask for support, and focusing on privacy and culturally-relevant access, it helps make care easier to reach.
Having the Healthbox at First Light means these supplies are available in a space already grounded in trust and community connection. Access to health resources is about more than having supplies available.
It is about respect, privacy, and choice. The Healthbox supports people in making decisions about their own health while reflecting First Light’s commitment to culturally safe, community-centred care.
We are excited to be launching an Indigenous-focused harm-reduction resource to support all our relations.
