Kynita Plain Eagle, Community Health Representative
"This healthbox isn’t just about supplies — it’s about prevention. The health education materials included helped me understand how to manage my diabetes better. I feel empowered to take care of my health before it becomes an emergency."
Sam Yellow Horn, Local Resident
"These healthboxes show us that our community cares. They give us tools, hope, and the message that our health matters. It has strengthened the bond between neighbours and families."
Vera Potts , Elder
"As a community health nurse, I see first-hand how lack of access to basic supplies prevents families from managing their health. These medical health boxes remove that barrier — they put essential tools right into people’s hands."

Our Healthbox, Our Community

Our Healthbox, Our Community

Aakom-Kiyii Health Services on Piikani Nation provides holistic, community and home care, blending tradition with health promotion and prevention.

An Indigenous health hub is the ideal location for a free Healthbox because it is already a trusted, culturally safe space where community members seek care, guidance, and support. By situating the Healthbox within this environment, people can access vital health resources in a place that respects Indigenous traditions, values, and ways of healing.

Placing the Healthbox in the hub increases accessibility to essential supplies such as HIV self-test kits, naloxone, harm reduction tools, and wellness products. These items are available at no cost and without stigma, removing barriers that often prevent individuals from taking care of urgent or preventive health needs. The discreet, low-barrier access also empowers community members to make informed decisions about their health, on their own terms.

Most importantly, the Healthbox strengthens community health as a whole. It helps prevent illness, supports harm reduction, and provides immediate tools that save lives—all while being embedded in a space that centers Indigenous voices and priorities. This approach not only meets people where they are but also builds on the hub’s trusted role, ensuring health care is both accessible and culturally grounded.
